Do I Look Fat in This Life Doesnt Begin Five Pounds from Now
Let’s face it, you’re tired of dieting. You hate counting calories and carbs and fat grams. You’re sick of the pressure to work out three times a week. Bottom line: You’re tired of feeling fat.
But here’s the thing: Fat is not a feeling. Happy, angry, sad — those are feelings. When you say you feel fat, chances are you mean something else. And when you ask someone if you look fat, you’re probably asking, “Am I good enough?”
Whether you’re a size 2, 12, or 22, it’s considered normal to hate your body. Society practically encourages it. But this discontent is really just a way of masking deeper issues such as insecurity, low self-esteem, or a longing for love and acceptance. By focusing on what others tell you are your shortcomings, you miss countless opportunities to feel connected, sexy, and powerful.
Do I Look Fat in This? brings good news: Life doesn’t begin five pounds from now. In this book, acclaimed author and speaker Jessica Weiner provides real solutions to real problems, from surviving a closet meltdown when you can’t find anything to wear, to how to cope with being bombarded by images of perfect-looking models.
With quizzes, guides, tools, and tips, Do I Look Fat in This? offers a step-by-step plan for creating a more fulfilling and positive life. You’ll feel better about your job, your relationship, your family, your friends — and most important, yourself.

5 Stars A refreshing talk with a good friend…
Jessica is wonderful! This book is encouraging and inspiring to anyone like myself who has been struggling with their weight for a long time. She encourages us to be healthy, but her definition of healthy includes accepting and loving your body and rejecting the media messages about what healthy should look like. Reading this book was like a refreshing talk with a close friend.
4 Stars helpful
This is a helpful book that is broken up into small chapters that are easy to read.It made me laugh, and get a better understanding of people who are never satisfied with their weight.
5 Stars This is not a new book
I loved Jessica Weiner’s books A Very Hungry Girl and Do I Look Fat In This. Therefore, when I saw she had a “new” book out, I immediately ordered it from Amazon without paying attention to details. Please be aware that if you already own Do I Look Fat In This, you do not need to order Life Doesn’t Begin 5 Pounds From Now; this is the same book with a different title and a new forward. So now I own two copies of this book with different covers, but I don’t mind so much because it is filled with wonderful information for not-slim women like me. Guess I must have needed to re-read it, huh?
5 Stars YOU CAN’T FEEL FAT — BECAUSE FAT IS NOT A FEELING…
If you’re tired of dieting, this may be the book for you. Jess’s book is a breakthrough experience for anyone who has struggled with self-appearance and self-esteem….and isn’t that most of us. She believes that by focusing on what others tell you are your shortcomings– you miss opportunities to feel connected, sexy and powerful. Whether you’re a size 2 , 12 or 22 or beyond– you can benefit from Jess’s words of wisdom. The motivational speaker, author and self-described “actionist” versus Activist…writes in plain English and tosses in some great motivational quotes from famous people and some fun facts about self approval and more. Twelve chapters plus an afterword are included..and the chapters are fun to read– get this even if you don’t have the time to read it– just scan it and you’ll benefit — I promise…ANyway the chapters range from Decoding the Language of Fat…to the Famous or should I say infamous question most women ask daily “Do I look Fat in This? to “I Feel Fat” to If I were Thinner, He’d Love me” to Thunder Thighs Run in my Family to Ch 6– I’d be so happy if I looked like a Celebrity to 7) Once I lose some weight….. to
All of my Friends are not and I’m not…9) But I’m jsut trying to be healthy to 11) [...] 12) Sorry I don’t speak that language. Quizes, roleplaying experiences and fun quizes are interspersed with TAKE ACTION steps…Probably the most important thought though is that YOU CAN”T FEEL FAT — because fat is not a feeling– and if you read that section alone (I don’t want to steal her thunder with her response to this) …you’ll benefit greatly…AN amazing lady and a fun, easy-to-read book that’s great for girls above 12, teens, college chicks and women of any age…great to get this before the holiday parties start! Fun birthday gift…
5 Stars incredible
I can’t begin to describe my difficulties of growing into the body I am going to have as a woman, but I don’t have to because Jessica did it for it for me. There are very few ways to describe how it feels to read “Do I look fat in this?” except to say it’s freeing. As I turned the pages I would eat up every word & little by little i could breathe easier.
Jessica is the start of something amazing that i want to be a part of!!

5 Stars Perfect for real world every-day raw
Elaborate gourmet dishes are fun on occasional but this to me provided practical ways to make fabulous raw dishes every day. So far I’m made more out of this book than other raw books and some are destined to be family favorites that we make over and over. And yes, even the simplest ones were appreciated because when starting raw, it’s not always easy or clear where to get started, what flavors combine well, what you can make without buying expensive equipment, and where to get a lot of unusual ingredients seen in other raw books. It can be overwhelming and sadly, stressful and this book makes eating raw enjoyable and liberating.
5 Stars Gloriously simple
I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking into or transitioning to raw food and anyone who is a busy person. It is simple, easy and the recipes really are ready fairly quickly. The food itself is very tasty and as long as you plan ahead you can be eating within 10 minutes of walking in the door. The “high fat” content alluded to in another review is much lower than a typical mainstream meal and it is my belief that when you transition to raw foods you need to have as much of the heavier foods around as possible, so that you feel satisfied as your body is getting used to the change. Worry about the fat later, when you are an experienced raw foodist. Chances are your body will tell you by then anyway! Enjoy this delightful little book and enjoy all the time you have not cooking!
5 Stars Alive in 5 - Great Book!
I really like this book for it’s simplicity and yet great tasting recipes. While some of them may be very simple - such as the cucumber pizza - I would have never tried it without the guidance provided. I made those simple little pizzas and took them to a party and they were not only a hit, but they totally disappeared - and fast!!
I have about 12-15 raw books and find this one to be right at the top of the list (along with Jennifer Cornbleets too) due to the ease of the recipes without a lot of upfront prep time. This is definitely one of my “weekday” recipe books! Granted, on a raw lifetstyle one does have to remember that soaking nuts/seeds is part of the deal so keep that in mind.
Enjoy and eat your veggies!
4 Stars Raw review
Some really lovely recipes for dressings which we are always looking for to pour on our many salads and wraps. Also, a couple of soups I hadn’t tried yet were very good. We don’t eat many sweet things, but this book has a great sounding lemon pudding I want to try. A nice investment for the busy raw foodist.
5 Stars Not always 5 minutes but always Tastey!
I recently purchased three raw cookbooks, this is the first I have tried.
I have tried all but two recipes of the first three days menu plan, plus two extras, sometimes they took a little longer than 5 minutes but I have enjoyed every recipes.
This is my fourth try going raw and I may make it this time because the foods in the book are readily available (except maybe one or two).
There is not a lot planning days ahead to soak, sprout, grind, dehydrate for three days so maybe it will be ready and hopefully you will still want it and remember what you were trying to make in the first place! With this book you see it, you check the frig and find the ingrediants, you make it, you love it!
